Shrub to 3 m (9 ft) tall. Twigs glabrous. Bark brown or dark purple, smooth. Leaves sessile, 2-2.5 mm (0.08-0.1 in) long. Flowers in a narrow dense raceme to 4 cm (1.6 in) long, 4-merous, usually pinkish. Fruits numerous brown capsules about 3 mm (1/8 in) long.
Distribution: Infrequent but widely scattered over much of the U. S. as escapes from cultivation. Native to Eurasia.
Habitat: Mostly on river flood plains.

Comment: Tamarix is the old Latin name; parviflora refers to the small flowers.
