Acaulescent shrub with long stiff evergreen leaves radiating from a basal rosette. Leaves flexible, grasslike, 30-100 cm (1-3.5 ft) long and 0.6-4 cm (0.25-1.6 in) wide at base, long-spiny at apex, dull green with margins often becoming filiferous. Inflorescence an open panicle with long pubescent branches. Flowers numerous, large, with 3 petaloid sepals and 3 petals, pale green to brownish. Fruits thick brown oblong-cylindrical capsules 3.8-5 cm (1.5-2 in) long.
Distribution: Louisiana, eastern Texas, southeastern Oklahoma
Habitat: Usually in sandy soils.

Comment: Yucca is the native Hatian name; louisianensis refers to Louisiana.
