Clambering shrub to about 1 m (3 ft) high. Stems sprawling, to about 3 m (9 ft) long, with short ascending branches, pubescent when young. Leaves opposite, broadly elliptic to ovate, 7-20 mm (0.3-0.8 in) long and 5-18 mm (0.2-0.7 in) wide, entire or with a few large teeth. Flowers solitary or in pairs, 9-12 mm (0.4-0.5 in) long, 2-3 mm (0.1-0.2 in) wide, whitish, blooming in late Spring. Fruits white, ellipsoid, 6-8 mm (0.2-0.3 in) long, ripening in Fall.
Distribution: Colorado, south to western Texas and west to Arizona.
Habitat: Rocky slopes and canyons.

Comment: Symphoricarpos is derived from a Greek phrase referring to the clusters of fruits; palmeri honors American botanist E. J. Palmer.
