Small shrub to 1 m (3 ft) tall. Branches thin, tomentose, usually herbaceous above and woody near the base. Leaves alternate, filiform or divided into 5-9 linear to filiform blunt-pointed lobes, margin entire and revolute. Flowers few to numerous, corymbose, yellow, aggregated at ends of branches. Ray florets usually 8, ligule 10-15 mm (0.4-0.6 in) long, usually pale yellow. Achenes strigose-canescent, ribbed, with pappus of soft white capillary bristles.
Distribution: Western Texas to Colorado and Utah, south to northern Mexico.
Habitat: plains and grasslands.

Comment: Senecio is the old Latin name of some plant; flaccidus may refer to the drooping leaves; douglasii honors the American botanist David Douglas.
